Why today's balance is not what you can spend

The amount your bank shows today still contains money that is already promised: rent, subscriptions, a card payment, the electricity bill. What matters before payday is not today's balance but the lowest point it reaches while those payments leave.

How upcoming payments change the projection

Every payment due before your income pushes the projection down on the day it leaves. Adding the few you already know about is usually enough to see whether the balance stays above zero.
